~ ~ RATE INCREASE ~ ~

Unfortunately, the Carroll County Landfill (Northern & Hoods Mill locations) will be increasing their Tipping Fees EFFECTIVE July 1st, 2008. From what we have heard and read within the pages of the Carroll County Times, the INCREASE may be DRASTIC. . . . as much as a 25% Increase in the Rates!
As such, we too, will be increasing our Refuse Rates in an attempt to absorb and manage the Landfill’s Increase.

When you receive your upcoming Orange Colored Quarterly Post Card Billing, (depending on the Service Dates) there will be an increase starting only with the month of July.

EXAMPLE:
If the Billing Period is May - July, the rate will be slightly increased, as ONLY the Service Month of July will reflect the increase. . .  then, the next Quarterly Billing (August – October) will include an increase covering the Entire Service Period.
All Billing for the Months of July and after will include the increase.
( Rate may vary if you are part of a Discounted Community Rate.)

We apologize for having no other alternative than to do this! However, during the past several years, the ONLY time that we have increased our Service Rate is as a result of an Increase at the Landfill’.
During this time of economic upheaval, you will find that ALL of the Refuse Companies within
the County will be increasing their Rates. At least, we do NOT have an added FUEL Fee!

Recycling Service News:

Today's environmental issues are a hot topic and, for the part that you are doing to aid in saving our environment, AREA REFUSE SERVICE deeply thanks you!

Over the past year, you may have heard or read in the local newspapers that Carroll County has changed some of their guidelines in respect to the procedures for recycling. Effective July 1st, 2007, Single-Stream Recycling went into effect. You are no longer required to separate Paper Products from Co-Mix; as such everything can go into one container (recycle bin).

Allowable Co-Mix consists of items made of plastic (narrow neck #1-7), glass, aluminum and tin. Paper products consists of most types of paper, junk mail, envelopes, newspapers, computer papers, school papers, colored papers, magazines, catalogs, paperback & hardback books, shoe boxes, cereal / snack boxes, and corrugated cardboard. All cardboard material MUST be flattened and tied in 2' x 2' bundles or smaller.

It is still highly recommended to bundle any and all loose paper prior to placing it into the bin, to avoid these items from blowing out of the recycle vehicle and throughout your neighborhood.

Please keep in mind that refuse and recycling are collected on the same day each week. There are two (2) separate vehicles that cover your route. As our crews begin their day extremely early, we ask that you please attempt to set your refuse and recycling out the night prior to your collection day. If you currently do not recycle but would like to begin recycling service or wish to discuss it further, please feel free to contact our office at your convenience.

Yard Waste News:

As you may have heard, last year Carroll County Landfill implemented NEW requirements in respect to the collection of YARD WASTE. For several years, Carroll County's Solid Waste Ordinance has prohibited Yard Waste from being mixed with regular household trash. Yard Waste has had to be segregated and managed separately. As such, AREA REFUSE SERVICE offers a separate Yard Waste Program to our customers, in which we collect only Yard Waste on those scheduled collection days.

Due to numerous problems associated with the use of plastic bags, the County NO LONGER accepts Yard Waste in PLASTIC BAGS! Since July 1st 2007, residents have been required to package any type of Yard Waste materials in either loose containers (trash cans that can be emptied) or paper lawn bags. The County recommends the use of "KRAFT" brand paper lawn bags. However, there are other brands and types of lawn bags available. Due to the environmental issues, any bags used for Yard Waste must be Bio-Degradable and Environmentally Friendly! According to County documents, "Kraft" paper lawn bags are available for purchase at almost any store (Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, K-Mart, and most grocery stores). "Kraft" bags hold thirty (30) gallons. The average cost for the bags is five (5) for $2.49 or fifteen (15) for $7.99.

Please do not set any Yard Waste out for collection that is not properly packaged, as our crew will not collect it......

As a reminder, we are not allowed to collect tree stumps, logs (greater than 4" diameter & 4' in length), rocks, dirt or lumber. Any brush, limbs, twigs, etc must be 4 feet in length or shorter and 4 inches in diameter or smaller and cannot be loose, it must be bundled or left behind. There is a 30 bag or bundle limit per collection and there are 2 collections per month (April thru November)
